Africa: Sudan Special Envoy Ambassador Princeton Lyman Travels to Ethiopia and Sudan

Following his announcement as U.S. Special Envoy for Sudan by Secretary Clinton and consultations with President Obama, Ambassador Princeton Lyman departs for Ethiopia and Sudan on Saturday, April 2, to support on-going negotiations between Sudan’s North and South on issues pertaining to South Sudan’s transition to independence in July 2011.
In Ethiopia, Ambassador Lyman will participate in discussions between the parties to the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) facilitated by the African Union High-Level Implementation Panel on security arrangements for the post-CPA period. He will then travel to Khartoum, for meetings with senior Sudanese officials on both North-South issues and Darfur. Subsequent to his visit to Sudan, Lyman will return to Ethiopia for discussions on economic arrangements between Sudan’s North and South.
